Do you harbor a fear of the water or perhaps feel like you’re the only adult who can’t swim? Well, you’re not alone and many adults think they are better swimmers than they truly are. According to a survey by the Red Cross, 80 percent of adults claim they could swim, but 44 percent of them also admitted they would fail a basic swim test.

Swimming is a life-saving skill that everyone should feel confident executing. It’s never too late to conquer your fear of the water and learn to swim. Our adult swim lessons are tailored to your individual needs and goals. Whether you want to learn basic swim safety skills, train for a triathlon, or face your fear and become comfortable just standing in a pool, Diventures can help. Dive into the details with us and discover how you can embark on a journey to aquatic confidence.

We offer two levels of adult swim classes to ensure you get the instruction that matches your skill level and goals. As our students progress in their swim journey, they can transition from the beginner stage to more advanced classes, depending on their progress and comfort level in the water.

Beginner Adult

Our beginner adult swim class is designed for individuals aged 16 and older who have little to no prior swimming experience. The primary objective of this class is to help you overcome any fear of the water. In addition to becoming comfortable in the water, you’ll learn how to jump into the pool, turn around, grab the wall, and confidently complete a two-minute tread and back floatBy the end of the course, you’ll be able to swim 20 meters without any equipment, using either windmill or freestyle arms and rollover breathing.

Advanced Adult

Our advanced adult swim lessons are perfect for those aged 16 and above who have already conquered the basics. In this class, you’ll focus on further enhancing your skills. Goals for this class include achieving a five-minute tread without using any buoyancy device, swimming a proficient 40-meter freestyle, and mastering the 40-meter backstroke. Whether you’re preparing for a triathlon, military swim test, or simply aiming to become a more confident swimmer, our advanced class will help you achieve your goals.

Certified Swim Teachers & Curriculum

Our swim teachers are certified with the highest SSI (Swim School International) credentials. The SSI certification process includes extensive academic study, assessments, hours of apprenticeships, and a final exam.

During our adult swim lessons, our swim teachers prioritize creating a safe and supportive environment, while recognizing that some individuals may have anxiety about being near or in the water.

Throughout these 30-minute lessons, our teachers display patience and encouragement, tailoring to each student’s unique aquatic pace and comfort level while developing crucial water safety skills.

We asked several of our past and current adult swim students to share their Diventures experiences in the hopes of inspiring others to take the next step and learn the life-saving skill of swimming.

“I am incredibly grateful for the swim instructors at Diventures Omaha. As an adult who loved the water, but was afraid to really enjoy the pool with family, having patient and kind instructors teaching me how to have confidence in the pool was truly life-changing. I am now able to jump into the deep end of the pool, swim, and slide down the water slides without fear, which has made me truly love and enjoy the water. Thank you so much for this gift!”

“I am 45 years old, and I didn’t like getting my face wet in the shower. I hated the feeling of being underwater, of feeling like I couldn’t breathe. I hated being afraid of all of that, and I wanted to learn to surf so I said this year I am going to overcome this.

Before class, I could doggy paddle a short distance. I would do so with the intention of never getting my face under. I preferred to stay in the waist-deep section of the pool if I was at the pool. If my face got wet, I felt very panicky.

My instructor took my goals seriously and used methods to help me learn and push me towards my goals. She listened to what I needed to achieve, which was being comfortable in the pool even if I got water in my nose or mouth. She started me off with just being comfortable swimming with my face underwater. As I slowly progressed, she added more skills for me to learn so that I could also swim for exercise. She gave me a lot of pep talks, knowing that it wasn’t the physicality of swimming holding me back, but the mentality. She also pushed me to go out of my comfort zone which is how I overcame my fear and became more confident.

I couldn’t even handle water on my face when I started but now, I can swim! I can freestyle underwater with side breathing, and I have a strong backstroke. If I need to swim in the pool or the ocean, I feel comfortable going underwater now. And most importantly, when I get water in my mouth or nose, I do not panic! I just handle the situation.

The people at Diventures are little water magicians. Every week I leave there feeling ready to conquer the world. I’ve started new challenges because of the confidence I have gained from this. I am forever grateful for starting this journey and am looking forward to all the new things I will learn along the way. Maybe scuba someday!
