OPEN WATER CERTIFICATION COURSE

Certification consists of three main phases:
- Home Study/Academics
- Confined Water/Pool Training
- Open Water Certification Dives
TIMES: We offer evening and weekend options for certification class. View the course calendar for upcoming classes.
COST: $300 for academic and and confined water training (certification dives not included)
REQUIREMENTS:
- Personal set of mask, fins and snorkel
- Liability Waiver
- Medical Statement
- 10 years old
EQUIPMENT: Your Open Water Diver course requires you to have your own mask, fins and snorkel for pool training and checkout dives. Additional scuba equipment is provided for confined water training, but not for open water certification dives. Rental packages are available for weekend certification dives in the summer months.
CERTIFICATION DIVES: You must complete four open water dives with an instructor to earn your certification. These must be completed within twelve months of your pool training, but we recommend doing them as close to your class as possible.
We offer local certification dives from May to September or and tropical certification dives year-round. Already have a trip planned? Talk with your instructor about completing referral paperwork for dives somewhere else.
PRIVATE LESSONS: Life is busy. If none of these options work for you consider our private classroom and pool training option. The course will be done at a pace that fits your needs. Private lessons cost $500 and ensure you get the most out of your scuba certification course. This does not include the cost of certification dives.

Space can be reserved over the phone with payment, but you will need to come into the store to collect course materials and paperwork. If you are from out of town we can mail all course materials to you for an additional $20.

Myth #2: You have to be a speedo-sporting competitive swimmer to be a diver
Sure, ultra-fit, competitive swimmers make great divers. They're comfortable in the water and they're in great shape, but if the logic of this myth were true, only Tour de France racers would ride bikes.
Diving is an active sport and the better shape you're in, the easier it will be, but any healthy individual with at least an average fitness level can do it.
We simply require you to complete a 200 yard swim without stopping, but there's no time limit and it's not a race. You prove to your instructor that you have basic water skills and are comfortable submerging your face in water, and that's it.
