Diventures To Train 1st Responders, Teach Children
OMAHA, NE -- Two Nebraska men have opened the nation's largest scuba and swim shop. The oceans are hundreds of miles away, but the owners expect to make a splash. But it's more than a money maker for them -- they said it's about safety. "The No. 1 cause of death for children under 4 years old is drowning, and that's just not right," said co-owner Dean Hollis.
Not only do owners Hollis and Mark Roberts hope to teach safety to children, but they also plan to use their 14-foot pool for first-responder training lessons. Hollis said a facility like Diventures and its equipment have been needed for such a cause. Responders can train year-round for all sort of events. The 12,000-square-foot facility at 120th and I streets will also serve as a state-of the-art spot for CPR and lifeguard lessons, as well as a spot to train divers. "We hope to do 400 to 500 scuba certifications a year in this facility," Roberts said. The first swim classes begin June 14.
Diventures will celebrate its grand opening on June 19 with an open house and outdoor concert.
