Join us for an exhilarating eight days, seven nights of shark research and photography. This trip offers a once in a lifetime opportunity to scuba close to hammerheads and manta rays in the Socorro Islands.
Known worldwide as the “Mexican Galapagos” the Revillagigedo Islands is the kind of place where anything can happen at any time. This group of volcanic islands attract large concentrations of fish, sharks and the biggest mantas you will ever see. The Revillagigedo Islands, know to the diving community as Socorro island, is found approximately 240 miles south of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
The main objective of the hammerhead shark research is to demonstrate whether the scalloped hammerhead shark population is an extension of the sharks populations found in other regions of the Eastern Pacific such as Cocos Island and the Galapagos. It will also be determined how far the sharks venture away from the Revillagigedo Island. Acoustic tags and receivers will be used to monitor the shark movements.
The manta ray, or giant manta, is the largest of the rays, with the largest known specimen having been about 25 feet across, with a weight of about 5,000 pounds. Mantas are most commonly black above and black and white patterned below. The Revillagigedo Islands are home to some of the largest specimens of giant mantas.
The Sea Escape, a 110 ft. aluminum vessel made for divers by divers, with private bathrooms in every stateroom, large living room with TV set, DVD, VCR, PC with software to download photos, fully air conditioned, water maker and nitrox blending system.
