Once I overcame my first deep water plunge - I had to be pulled up with the hook - I never turned back. I taught swimming and worked as a lifeguard all through high school. I also taught swimming at a school for the deaf during the summers when I was in college. Then I got a real job... What was I thinking?
After many years without water-related activities, I decided to get back in the water and have some fun. I twisted my husband’s arm and in 1996 we got certified as open water divers. I continued taking scuba courses and worked up way up to an instructor in 2000.
I love sharing my passion for diving with new students. There’s nothing like seeing them breathe underwater for the first time. Add that to a trip to new dive locations and I’m in paradise.
I’m happy to say I’m also back into teaching swimming. And that real job? Well, that’s another story.
