I started diving because I had the opportunity to go to Australia and could not fathom going to Australia without being a certified scuba diver. I have been a fan of diving since I was a teenager watching Sea Hunt. For some reason the idea of being underwater always fascinated me.
I grew up in Wisconsin and during the 60's there was not much in the way of recreational diving there. I went to school and started practicing law. I would rather be underwater than practice law which shows from my e-mail (dive1552@yahoo.com). I fell in love with being underwater and decided that I needed to spread that love, so I became an instructor. Now I spend as much time in the water as I can, whenever I can. A friend of mine says it best, "Any puddle, any time!"
Instructor Gear:
Why did you choose this gear?
I chose the gear because of its quality and have been very happy with the performance. I use this equipment to teach and because it provides great ease of use and the reliability.
Where is your favorite place to dive?
It is hard to choose the most favorite place that I have been to dive. I enjoy all diving. There are good things about all the places I have been. I have been to Australia, Jamaica, Caymans, Turks and Caicos, the Bahamas, Florida, Mexico, Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin, and still have a lot of places I want to go. No one dive spot is my favorite. I could go to any of these sites and dive and never get tired of the things I see underwater. There is always something new under water in every place I have been. You never get tired of seeing the wonders of the underwater world. Even fresh water diving provides a new and different experience almost every time I get wet. Quarries, lakes, rivers, and sometimes caves provide great spots to dive and explore.
What got you into scuba diving?
I got into diving because the underwater world has fascinated me since the days of Lloyd Bridges and Sea Hunt. I love to teach to spread the love of diving and respect for the underwater world to as many people as possible. More people should be made aware of the beauty of the things you see underwater and how fragile this world is. They need to be aware that we need the things the sea provides to us and that things we take for granted, like the air we breathe and the water we drink is in some ways are related to the oceans. Little things like improper trash disposal and driving a car, can cause damage to this world and we really don't know how that damage will affect our lives. By being more aware of the damage that we can cause to these environments we can try to keep them around for the future.
